Not Because You’re Black, But Because You’re Black

Why must I be the bigger person?
Always take the higher route?
I could really hurt some feelings
If I choose to run my mouth.
I should listen to my OG’s
Cause that’s not what it’s about,
We still carry all the boulders
That burdened Blacks from the South,
And the weight ain’t get no lighter
On their trek up to the North.
Dodging white supremacist
Who be killin’ niggas for sport,
And of course
Racism was still a issue in the Union.
'Bout sixty thousand days laters
And we can’t afford to lose it—
Over something stupid
Cause we got so many ways to go.
